THE CONNECTION BETWEEN SIN AND AFFLICTION
SCRIPTURE: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases. – Psalm 103:2-3
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Sin Attracts Affliction
There is a connection between sin and affliction. Our anchor Scripture corroborates this. One of the consequences of sin is sickness. In the Book of Numbers Chapter Twenty One, when the children of Israel sinned against God and against Moses by murmuring and complaining, they inherited the affliction of the biting serpents. They went to Moses and told him that they have sinned against the Lord and that he should pray to the LORD to take the serpents away from them.
Sin invites affliction to a man’s life: Lying, stealing, smoking, drinking, etc., all cause diseases. Lung cancer is caused by tobacco smoking. Alcoholism can cause diabetes, liver cirrhosis and other associated diseases. Immorality will cause HIV infection, gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia, blocked fallopian tubes, infertility, unwanted pregnancy leading to abortion; it also causes low sperm count on the side of the man, leading to marital disaster in the future. Stealing can lead to imprisonment, terrible conscience, lack of Divine Presence, unanswered prayers, etc.
You see, the cost of iniquity is too much compared to whatever it has to offer, if any.
Endeavour to avoid the way of sin by leaving the company of those who can lure you into sin.
Remember this: Sin invites affliction.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Ask God to forgive you in any way you have sinned against your body, the temple of the living God.
2. Ask God to heal you of any sickness that is the consequence of sin in your life.
3. Make a determination to refuse to sin henceforth.
PRAYER: Oh Lord I confess any sin in my life that has brought any form of affliction. I pray You heal me LORD, in Jesus’ Name.
