KEY THOUGHTS ON PRAYER AND FASTING
SCRIPTURE: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. – James 4:8
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayer draws man to God and draws God to man
It is confirmed that the more a man gets closer to God, the more he fulfils God’s purpose for his life and realise destiny. One major means of drawing closer to God is prayer and fasting. Prayer draws man to God and draws God to man. According to our anchor Scripture, what are we expected to see when we are drawn to God in prayer and fasting?
1. Fasting is an expression of burden, heaviness, and concern: In Israel, in those days, whenever there was a heavy burden or concern, the people would go before God in fasting and prayer. This was what happened in Daniel 6:18. The king spent the night in prayer and fasting because there was a weight on his heart; it was a concern to rescue Daniel. It is through fasting that weights and burdens are communicated. Therefore, fasting is not a period of jesting and aimlessness.
2. Spiritual sensitivity: The period of fasting is a period of sensitivity; a time of Divine revelations and directions. As you embark on fasting, God will reveal to you the reason you are living, in Jesus’ Name.
3. Liberty from captivity: Fasting loosens the bands of wickedness and breaks every yoke of captivity (Isaiah 58:6). It enforces liberty from captivity, and deliverance from bondages.
Beloved, if you are facing any bondage in your life; if you are being tormented by nightmares and spirit wives, spirit husbands, or serpentine spirits, you can be free by fasting and prayer.
Remember this: Prayer draws man to God and draws God to man.
