VALUED OR VALUELESS?

SCRIPTURE: Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. – Hebrews 12:16

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: People of value are destined for greatness in life.

Values have been defined as the accepted codes, principles or standards of behaviour of a person or a group of persons.

People of positive values are destined for greatness in life. On the other hand, the lack of positive values is the reason for mediocrity in life and destiny. The Bible clearly differentiated men and women of value from men and women without values and principles of life.

Now, what are the examples of people from these two different categories of human beings in the Scripture?

1. Cain and Abel:
What differentiated Cain from Abel was value. Abel had a great sense of value for God; he would not take any of the animals in his flock until he had given God the first and the best. But as for Cain, anything could go for God. No wonder, they ended differently on the ground of value.

2. Jacob and Esau:
The difference between Jacob and Esau was their sense of value. Jacob was future minded; he knew that there was a great destiny in the lineage of Abraham but Esau saw nothing, he was a valueless nonentity that ended up in uselessness and mediocrity.

3. Ruth and Orpah:
Value differentiated Ruth and Orpah.  Ruth was ready to maintain her relationship with Naomi till the end. But Orpah on the other hand saw no future in her relationship with Naomi. She terminated the relationship and the time she parted ways with Naomi was also the end of her relevance in life and destiny. This was because she lacked values!

Remember this: People of value are destined for greatness in life.

ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Make up your mind to belong to the category of men and women of value.
2. Take a close study of people with great sense of value like Abel, Jacob, Ruth, etc., and follow the steps they took.

PRAYER: O LORD, I ask for the grace to practice the disciplines of solid character and obedience to Your Word. Help me LORD to be positively different in my generation, in Jesus’ Name.
